At this point, it’s worth considering the scope of our model coordination. Simply speaking:

A few questions can help us determine that:

• Are we going to check model geometry (model coordination), or we will also validate the information in the models (data coordination)?
• Do we check if model spaces meet the design requirements (space validation)?
• Do we validate clearance between model elements e.g.: duct blocking access to an air handling unit maintenance point in a machine room.
• Are we going to check if all the model parameters are applied according to information requirements?

Asking ourselves the above questions at the beginning of the coordination process will help us to build up proper checking rules (about the rules in the next step).

Your homework

In this guide, we will focus only on simple clash detection between Architectural, Structural and MEP models.
